For those wondering, I am working on another page of Hunt but things are very busy this summer so I'm not getting much done. Now on to what this post is about.

So, I'm on a bunch of different social networks. I figured I'd review them. (I'm giving links to the ones that I don't use my real name on.)

thebridgelands.net
This forum appears new but it's actually the old Dragons in Our Midst forum and it's been moved. I've been in this community since 2007 and it was the first online website I ever joined. I've made some good friends there and it's changed my life since that's where I learned how to debate an interact online. If anyone wants to join a good Christian (mostly) community, it would be a good one to join.

DeviantART
This place is great. Lots of times, when I've expected criticism for my views, I've gotten support. There's the occasional troll but that problem is extremely rare. I've made friends here and it's easy to find like-minded people.

Facebook
The biggest hate, like, hate relationship I have with a social network. I don't want to leave because I want to stay connected with friends but I tend to have issues with politics and relatives or friends. (I don't agree with their politics and when I see something I disagree with, I fume about it until I reply.)

Google+
I got this just for the FaceTime thing. I like the setup on it and it seems nice but I haven't used it a lot. I do have a few friends there.

Pinterest
Its fun for getting info and what it's made for but I dislike the lack of socialization on the place. I can't figure out how to send other people messages so it's not really a place I feel like I can make friends and I like making friends.

Shelfari (www.shelfari.com/rebel_rider) and Goodreads (www.goodreads.com/user/show/17…)
I used to use the communities a lot on Shelfari but now, I mostly just keep track of my books on there. The communities can be nice, for those interested. I have noticed people on Goodreads are sometimes a bit mean about the book reviews though.

Twitter
This is something I got on because I'm trying to be an author and I figure I'd better have a Twitter account. I swore I wouldn't get into politics on there since I don't want to scare off potential publishers and so far, I've avoided it. I do not like the character limit and I don't really like the "culture," which I haven't quite figured out. I don't get these people who follow you expecting a follow back and then unfollow me when I don't follow them. If I'm not interested in them, I'm not going to follow them. I also don't really want followers who aren't interested in what I have to say. What's the point of a bunch of followers who don't read your stuff?

And here's my flag counter because I think this thing is neat.

I don't use Pinterest as a "social network" per se, but I love it for visual research and planning for creative projects like my novels or art. I really don't care if people interact much with me there, because I mostly use it for my own purposes. Sort of like an easy way to gather research in one place, without having to take up space on my hard drive.

Twitter, however, I've really begun to make use of because of the fantastic animation and concept art communities there. I've discovered that is isn't at all like facebook - you don't just post your thoughts and expect your followers to engage. It is more of a give and take, conversational type of thing. I am able to ask my peers how they got an internship at Disney Studios, give people suggestions of tools or things that might help them, or ask an artist in the industry about the particulars of portfolio creation. For fun, I participate in a daily sketching activity, using the #sketch_dailies. Others who participate can find my tweets via the feed.
