DA deleted something similar to this, saying it violated the "rules" but linking to "sexually explicit." I've updated a little. I hate censorship, and am furious that it's the standard now instead of the exception.
I have no problem with the Confederate flag.
Let’s look at some of Lincoln’s quote: “My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union.”
“I will say, then, that I am not, nor have I ever been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races."
I don't believe for a second that the Union cared enough about black people to fight a war to free them. It makes a nice argument, but we're talking about a government that continued to violate human rights after this, so don't try to tell me they were the good guys for a couple years, then went right back to being tyrants.
If you want more information on the war, read The War Between the States by John J. Dwyer.
Some argue that the Confederate Flag’s been flown by racists and that makes it bad, but the same can be said about the American Flag. It’s true, the Confederate flags (There are multiple flags) were flown while slavery was allowed, but the American flag has flown over the same thing. Worse, the American flag has flown while over 60 million babies have been aborted, and that’s just the people murdered by abortion. I’m not even counting the millions killed in wars the United States instigated.
In my view, the Confederate Flag is a symbol of rebellion, which seems like a decent symbol considering the things the government is supporting. Most people who fly it see it as a symbol of their heritage or a sign of rebellion, not racism. People should not be forced to take it down because some people mistakingly believes it's only a symbol of racism.
It should go without stating, I am against slavery of any sort and also against racism.
Once upon a time, there was a family who desperately wanted to adopt a puppy, but no matter how hard they looked, there were no puppies to be found. The neighbor, who never wanted puppies, was irresponsible with his dog and she got pregnant. He said as soon as she had the puppies, he was going to kill them. The family knew this and said, “We’ll take all the puppies as soon as they’re weaned. Just care for them until then.” The neighbor said no. He didn’t want to care for the puppies he’d brought into the world, not even for eight weeks. After all, they weren't really dogs. They were fuzzy leaches that sucked the mother like parasites, unable to even poop without help, completely deaf and blind.
The family complained about this, but everyone said “His dog, his choice. Besides, they're just fuzzy leaches, not really dogs yet.” The neighbor chopped the puppies up with an ax, simply because he wasn’t willing to take responsibility for letting his dog get pregnant.
Now imagine it’s unborn babies being killed instead of puppies. There are millions of people willing to adopt the babies, but instead, they're killed for convenience. (And contrary to popular belief, an "unwanted" baby can be put up for adoption, NEVER going into the foster system. There is a high demand for babies.)
It should be easier for humans to avoid getting pregnant than it is to keep a dog from getting pregnant. After all, humans can say "no" unlike the dog who will actively try to get pregnant if not spayed.
There are also organizations that help struggling mothers so they can keep their babies. I have friends who can help you get the aid you need if you're in this sort of position.
During WWII, over 100,000 innocent Japanese and thousands of Germans were imprisoned because they could pose a threat to America. They lost their freedom and their livelihoods. During Covid-19, hundreds of millions of Americans are being imprisoned in their homes because they could pose a threat to other Americans. They are losing their freedom and their livelihoods. Both groups are innocent people, robbed of their freedom and their ability to work, not because they ARE a threat, but because they MIGHT be.
When people who have done nothing are imprisoned or robbed of their ability to feed their family because of something they might do, be it becoming a Japanese saboteur or spreading a virus they most likely don’t have, that is evil. In the end, the root cause of this is the same. People supported imprisoning Japanese because they were afraid of them, and now they support imprisoning everyone because they’re afraid of them. Innocent people should never be imprisoned because of what they “might” do. This goes against every concept of freedom. It’s wrong to lock someone in prison without proof because he might murder someone, and it’s wrong to to lock someone in their home because they might get sick and spred it.
Yes, I understand, people are dying, but during WWII, you could still care about those who died in Pearl Harbor and believe that locking up Japanese people was wrong, just like now you can care about those who die of Covid-19 but not support putting people under something near house arrest because of the virus.
And before you say, “But this is worse than the flu” remember that we don’t even have any laws making it illegal to go out in public while having the flu or common cold, even though, statistically, you’d be more likely to kill someone by going out in public with the flu than you would be to kill someone by giving them the cornavirus if you went out in public while appearing healthy.
